Nov 17, 2011

Our announcement earlier this week of the launch of an experimental audio player – we’re calling it Infinite Player – has attracted quite a bit of notice in media and tech circles.

What we've been up to and where we're headed

Nov 14, 2011

It seems like only yesterday the Digital Services roadshow was in full swing. That effort, spread over the summer, was my first opportunity to get to know stations and to give you an idea of what Digital Services was going to be about.

Recent Advances in Core Publisher

Nov 10, 2011

Core Publisher, Digital Services' CMS platform, is evolving rapidly as we incorporate a wider range of audience-driving features and functionality. We began our construction back in June of 2010 with six pilot stations: KPLU, KUNC, Michigan Radio, KUT, St.

Web analytics is one of those things that everyone agrees is important, but no one has enough time for.

We all agree that measuring the performance of our station site is valuable, so we can see what's working and where we should be investing in improvements. But let's face it: Looking at raw Google Analytics data is overwhelming, time-consuming, and sometimes not very actionable.

We're here to help with this challenge. We're putting the finishing touches on a new Analytics Service and growing a team that will be dedicated to helping you answer these important questions:

Connecting to Your Community With Google+

Nov 8, 2011

Thanks for Nathan from KUT News in Austin, TX for the enthusiastic heads-up on this!

Google recently introduced the ability for businesses and brands to create Google+ (Google Plus) pages, and we suggest that all stations take advantage of this opportunity to connect with users and promote content. This is a great new tool that can prove to be very powerful in gathering and interacting with your listeners and community.

Track Your Social Impact and Share Content Using AddThis

Oct 7, 2011

As we all know, one of the goals of Core Publisher is to help you create an active community on your site through your content. One of the easiest ways to use your content to drive traffic is to allow visitors to share it on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Core Publisher harnesses the power of AddThis, one of the most effective online sharing and analytic tools, to allow your users to share your content in ways that you can track.

Online Donations on the Rise in 2010

Jan 10, 2011

An article by Chronicle of Philanthropy reports that online giving grew considerably in 2010, especially for year-end giving. They provide results from three large organizations that handle online gifts for non profits, and their numbers show an increase in online giving amounts in 2010 ranging from 10% to whooping 40% over 2009.

How did our Quick Pledge stations fare in comparison? I pulled some stats to see:

Jan 4, 2011

What will the trends in fundraising be for the upcoming year? A few industry experts give their recommendations and predictions.

Some key items that I think are particularly relevant to public broadcasting are the following:

  • The role of mobile engagement is becoming more and more important.
  • The importance of connecting and building relationships with your donors.
  • Really knowing your donors by analyzing your database.

Dec 30, 2010

So tomorrow is Friday, Dec. 31st and you’d like to get your pledges from Quick Pledge processed before the end of 2010 so your donors get the tax benefit.

But it’s a holiday, and PI is closed. Don’t worry, there is a way.

You can use the Pledge Delivery Manager tool to Send Pledges Early on the Same Day.

If you receive a daily batch file, you can use this tool to receive transactions early. Pledges will be sent to the dedicated pledge email address. (NOTE: This is different from the non-secure pledge notification email.) To access this new feature:

Measuring your audience and engagement: Updates from Analytics team

And the results are significant: politics and election coverage had more than double the one-week retention rate of the previous 12 weeks. We also launched two big features to...
