Everything You Need to Know About Digital Services & Knight Training

May 24, 2012

[Editor's Note:  This round of Knight Foundation funded training is now over.]

I’m pleased to announce that our 2012 digital training efforts are well underway.

We have several training plans to choose from, depending on your station’s size, capacity and digital ambitions. Through the Knight Foundation’s generous two-year $1.5 million grant, we're able to give you more guidance on what makes the most sense at any given time, whether it’s a three-week training module dedicated to web writing or a 10-week intensive workshop that covers a wider range of topics.

The three programs will run concurrently. Signing up for one initiative does not exclude you from another:

Weekly online webinars: These sessions are developed around modules that last anywhere from 2-5 weeks – typically a one-hour webinar each week. You can attend modules that fit your schedule and skill set. However, we highly encourage you to take an entire module, since each week’s lesson builds on the previous week. More information here.

11-week intensive online program:We’ll select 10 stations based on an application process for each intensive program. Each 11-week training program begins with a three-day, in-person leadership conference that is partially paid for by the grant. The training then shifts to webinars and one-on-one critiques with the DS editorial team. Additional fees apply. More information here.

Limited on-site training:As part of the grant, we’ll be able to offer subsidized on-site training for a select number of stations beginning in May 2012. Additional fees apply. More information here.
